cklove,
Please drop the drama and possible hurt feelings. I won’t pretend to agree with everything anyone here has said. We all have our preferred methods and materials.
I don’t agree with anyone commenting LOL about mil spec, but I also never expected anyone to be so sensitive about it.
I totally agree that we often say things on line that we’d never say in person. I also think we often misinterpret things said on line, lord knows I have.
I’m glad you’re getting your CK wired!

The solder she will be using consists of 25% silver, 25% copper, 25% tin, & 25% lead, and is $140 a pound. The wire is silver plated stranded copper with PTFE insulation 600V. She has already attached/soldered the wiring with ring terminals to the thermostat (IMPOSSIBLE)?? with shrink wrap attached to where the wire meets the connector loops, & the cover fits PERFECTLY as original, without having been modified. I'm sure someone will STILL want to find fault with this... I know others have used ring terminals, though I personally found it easier to use female spade disconnects, but a little tight when soldered onto the compressor leads, and then I soldered those in place. I don't remember all the formulations of solder, but I think I used rosin core on mine. Let us all know how it turns out in the end. It sounds like your method will work out nicely. And my apologies Travis/cklove for the LOL about mil-spec wiring.

ELEC573, my VERY high regard for you COULD possibly be the SOLE route to a possible reconciliation with Turbo, if he truly desires it. But someone who would imply my lady to be IGNORANT in not knowing how to choose Mil spec wire after her 300 hours of college credit and advanced electronics degree should get ANY man who loves his lady to defend her VIGOROUSLY, and I will always do so, even if it makes me look "overly sensitive". It is a caring man's DUTY to do this, not an "overly sensitive neurosis" on my part. I would certainly honor Travis if he defended HIS woman from wrongful insult as well. And, I would not play "judge" & condemn HIM for that. If someone wants to call ME dumb & snicker about my personal & real lack of knowing fridges & electricity, no big deal. But Renee only wanted to really help, & did not deserve this. We were excited about sending photos as we go into the resto, & provide sources of supply so others could build theirs to this level if they liked, but the thought of group ridicule now mutes our desire to eagerly share, as we originally wanted to do. We would LOVE to send helpful pics if we are not made "fun" of. And CSULAGUY, apology DEFINITELY accepted, & thank you for showing the strength of character for you to have made that gesture. We previously actually lived in L.A. near CSU. Loved the climate, but the demographics compelled us to move to rural Missouri instead. John & Renee

Your lady is very smart, but in the opinion of myself and some others here, her research about using MIL spec materials is a bit overkill for repairing a 1930's refrigerator.
I don't have a lady to defend on this type of matter. I suspect that if I had one, we'd both sit here and read the comments and take them with a grain of salt. Again, internet opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Please use the whatever advice you wish to use here. It's all free.
Please can we get past your lady being maligned? We all are very sorry. Let's proceed now. It would now be appropriate for you to create a new thread in the CK section to deal with any other issues you may have with your fridge.
It's not specifically your fault, but all this non-relevant discussion devalues this often used thread and may confuse another new member. This is yet another example of a reference thread that should be locked and made a sticky.

Agreed; I've actually lost a measure of sleep for days & some appetite over what transpired here already. My '49 Schwinn & Buick convertible projects are also getting ignored. Subject closed.
I really can use a replacement CK door handle, as mine was broken when I bought it. (the exterior 3 screw type). Will go to the thread that deals with that & post pics.

Hi.I'm a new member. Recently acquired an AK1 which is a canadian CK. Had no relay but i jumped wires and saw that the compressor ran OK. I started rewiring it before i found your postings. They are a treasure of information. Didn't know where to get the type E or R relay till I saw your thread about the R081 relay. Ordered it last night. Hole in the line at the condenser. No SO2. That's another thread. My thanks to the contributors.

There seem to be just a few of us who repair broken-line machines. I'm pleased that you're going to move forward with the repair. Any idea how the line got punctured at the condenser?
I haven't had to repair a condenser leak; but have repaired several evaporator lines which got broken off. Here is a thread with that repair in videos. monitortop.freeforums.net/thread/1425/ck-all-problems-last
Looking forward to pictures, and will keep looking for your thread on this one! Sincerely, David

Hi. The line is a short one coming out of the condenser going to the evaporator. It's short and s shaped. It is below the relay which it doesn't have. It'a a small pin hole and hard to get at between the steel fins between the unit and the condenser. Not much room for tools.
