I have a 1935 GE CK-2-C16. No. 6148776. It uses Sulphur Dioxide 2.25 lbs. My folks bought it in 1935 to replace their ice box. It has run continuously since then except for a few moves. It has never had a service call. What was GE thinking about? They were thinking about engineering something to last! Very happy you have had such good service out of it.

Hi, I picked up a ck-2-b16. Rewired the roached out original wiring and she fired up and runs. Cools the inside freezer/coil part to 36degree F. How do I know if it has had the coolant swapped; should I try to find someone to do that? Neat unit, my first. I just like old looking things that work so I can put them to use. This one is intended to be a beverage cooler for the patio.
Anyone have insight or input, I am at f1gearhead50@outlook.com
Thanks

Welcome jon
glade you posted
I have the ckb16 as my avatar and in my house for several years now no problems.
But I rewired it and put new insulation and door gaskets on it , also had it repainted. It works well but being a ck it was the last of the monitors tops and benefited from previous
years of GE learning. Very least I would do with yours is rewire and new door seals . none of which is very expensive if you do it you’re self.
As far as the cooling (so2) leave it alone mine is original and unless you puncher the cooling lines it’s not a problem. When it needs defrosting don’t use a pick on it . I just open the door and let it defrost naturally.
