We're all watching the Surgeon at work and hope the patient survives.

Gill, When it comes to Monitor Tops you're an artist. You do amazing work! However, what is with that DMM?

I don't like auto ranging myself. Just used to knowing what I have it set for I guess. And the brand was priced so it can be abused in the bottom of the tool box

That cloth covered wire is a lot less trouble than the rubber insulated wire my CK had. Rubber insulation just crumbles and falls off. It looks like you could have gotten away with not completely rewiring it if it had been working fine.

To elaborate,it was the title of a book "Cotton is king" by David Christy in 1855. It was used in a speech "YOU DARE NOT MAKE WAR ON COTTON,COTTON IS KING" in 1858. Just sayin'

Coton isn't King in these windings anymore that's for sure. It was in very rotten condition as were also the paper insulators. I got crazy and removed the windings as they were shot anyway. I hope I got everything recorded properly that I need to try to rewind them. Don't have any materials for the rewind but will have to work on that. Here the first start winding pole has been removed. Now all the start winding is removed. Most of the first run winding pole removed. One more run winding pole to go. Here is just the iron core. Its in real good shape with no sign the rotor ever rubbed it. By the way this is a copper/iron rotor on this unit.

What does all of that smell like? Just oil, or is there an SO2 smell as well?
