Yes, happy anniversary! I'm currently using my CA as my beer fridge and it is happily purring along. I love the unique sound it makes.

I use an engine hoist also . But you can lift them by hand , but you need a person on each side . Be careful of the tubing going to the evaporator on the inside! I’d have at least 3 people to be safe . Have everything ready to set it on also . I used 2 saw horses with 2 by 4s on them spaced far enough apart so the evaporator fits between them. Do not set it on the evaporator it’s not strong enough. This makes a decent working hight also .

Does the top unit of a CA-1 or 2 just lift off or does it need to be unscrewed?

Does the top unit of a CA-1 or 2 just lift off or does it need to be unscrewed? It lifts off. It's held only by gravity.

Hi, this is my first post, glad to have this group I have always loved the look of the Monitors, I have 2 of them, they are both Sulfer Dioxide. If I give you the ser# can you tell me their age, I thought one was a 27 and the other a 34, a guy on another site corrected me , says one is 1930 the other is 1936, he was going by the pics, sounds like he knows about them, just curious... One is a CK-2-C16. Ser# 6303845, covered coils, The older one is D-2-A16 ser# 1264722 exposed coils
Thanks. Much appreciated Tom

Hi Tom,
The estimate of 1930 and 36 is accurate. The D2's were released in 1930 I believe, The serial number might indicate 1931.

I was wondering if any one could give us info on a FEA-2-C16 serial # 45-306-278. it sits on a box that has the # 6-8E-4313 Type PS62. I need a repair manual but can not seem to find our square top type that uses 11 oz. of freon 12 with an 1/8 HP . I understand that this top was a replacement for the original top. All the info I seem to find is for the original round top monitor. This Refridge belonged to my wife's grandmother and it is very sentimental to her. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

They are service just like any R-12 system. What do you need help with, we can guide you. A lot of it has already been coved in the FEA section of this forum.

IM THORUGHLY IMPRESSED BY THE DESIGN AND LONGEVITY OF THESE EARLY REFRIGERATORS. I HAVE TO UNPLUG THE UNIT FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND TRY AGAIN. SO FAR I HAVE BEEN GETTING BY THIS WAY. HELP This is likely caused by a very small leak, allowing air to be drawn into the system and build up in the float chamber. Alternatively it can be caused by the compressor unloader valve becoming stuck. In order to help you better, we need pictures of the unit, and videos of how it sounds when running - both when it is working correctly; and when it's running without cooling. What size is it? There should be another number associated with the CK marking. CK-2 CK-26 CK-30 etc. should be there. The different size machines sometimes had different problems so it's important to know. EDIT: Another important point is where you are located. There are a few of us scattered around the country who sometimes will take on repair jobs.
