I didn’t read the description. You’d have to talk to them about what it’s doing.

Paul, I hate to be a potty mouth but I got to rain on the parade a little. They say it "cools when turned on but turns its self off after a wile." That would be an overload trip. In my opinion, a DR with an overload tripping issue is likely in need of a major overhaul including a motor rewind.
Again I don't want to be a party-pooper but want to point out that detail so you can let it factor in on your decision making.
Lovely. I interpreted it as "it gets cold, and turns itself off because the sensing tube got cold enough". If anything, it's on my way to my stop to pick up the diesel generators I won at gov't auction, so I'll look at it and figure out if I'm still interested in it. Travis - the gentleman who is selling it won't go lower than $250. Always wanted a DR2 or D2 (since as you know, a DR2 got me started in this fascination a decade ago), but if it has an overload, I'll probably pass, since, like most of us here, I'm relatively tapped out on fridges (and would love to get rid of my CAs and just focus on CKs and DRs).

250 is way too much if it’s shutting off prematurely.
These units are out there.

I wasn't sure at first if shutting off prematurely was the same as getting to the correct temp and ending the cycle. On another note, I did find a DR2 that I can take for free (with a pig evap), but I need to figure out how to get assistance pulling off the top. That's also along my way to Manitowoc, WI.

You can strap the unit to the cabinet, lay it over with a dolly and pull the unit once it’s laying down, if you eat your wheaties first.

I've never been able to get a top off without the help of an engine hoist; I believe a DR2 top itself is roughly 200 lbs. I love the photo you started this thread with.

I don't even remember what photo I started this off with. So I called the seller of this unit and told him I'm going to pass on it, but thanked him for taking my call a few days ago. Turns out I found someone who is giving me a DR-2 for free in Milwaukee. It was plugged into a non-working outlet, so no clue if it works. She said it's been in the basement of her home for 39 years that she's been there and never used by her or her husband, and now the home is sold. I'll chip in about $40 to her brother to drive 2 hours round trip to help me take off the top and carry the cabinet out of her basement. It has a pig evap, chiller tray and three shelves. I'll never pass up a cheap or free CK, but a cheap or free DR is even better!
