i have a DR-1 welded compressor that is sick. i want to open it up, so i'm looking for someone that has done it. ill post some pics. of it and the oil that came out of it. my question is, does the welded bead around the compressor case done to create an interference fit? it looks like it is to me beause you can see the bottom edge of the compressor housing below the bead. i'm sure most of you know how to take a bearing race out with a welder. same principle. i had a DR float valve that was apparently done that way because i never found the bottom of the weld on it. i'll attach the oil that came out of it also. thanks in advance. Gill is the only one here that has opened a DR1. I have a small army of them. They seem plentiful and all have worked that I have found.

I hope you keep posting progress pictures. I loved watching Gill’s progress videos on his DR.
As Travis said, he’s the only one who opened one that I know of, but if there’s something knew to learn, all the better.

I opened up the DR-1. sad shape. Windings fried. Pump frozen. Haven't taken it apart yet. I have a trio of windings getting rewond. DR-1,2 &3. Still waiting. There is a fan on the end of the armature though, kind of cool. I have 2 Mueller service kits. Just got lucky and got them cheep. I don't know how many companies made them.i will post a pic of the DR-1 opened up.

I'm still curious about what material the base is made of cast iron or steel. Sure looks like the weld around it made an interference connection with the base.

Wow, you’re right. It’s toasty in there! Are you planning to get it rewound?

The bigger DR’s fail because they worked hard for the technology. It has nothing to do with the control.
