Very nice job it looks great. were the racks made from stainless steel?

I loved the Carousel of Progress to an unnatural degree. I wanna see it!
This was one of my favorite Disney attractions ever. It was a very moving experience to me (beyond the obvious carousel motion).

Yes, the racks are stainless. I asked them to plate them but order too small to be economical. Polished up well enough for my needs.

Hi,after about a year of flawless running, my DR now will not cycle off. The temp gets to about 38-40 degrees. If I turn temp all the way up, the fridge will occasionally cycle but never gets cold enough to freeze. Did my system lose some gas? Or is it something simpler like a clean and lube? Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

More than likely, the evaporator is oil-logged causing it to not work correctly. There are several methods to clear this, all of which involveplacing hot water or some other heat source on the evaporator, with the unit running, to help the oil flow back to the compressor. This will often solve the issue you're having. Another possibility is the unloader is not seating completely. This can be remedied by the extra flow from the oil logging treatment above. I'm sure some of the other well-seasoned old hands will chime in soon! Sincerely, David

Thanks! I'll run a hot air gun on the evaporator and see what happens.

Totally agree with David's assessment. A heat treatment is a good first step. I've found a ziplack bag of piping hot water works well too.
Also, measure the machine's watts if it does it again. That will tell you how much work the compressor is doing as a sanity check.

Thanks. The hot air gun didn't result in any change. I do notice occasionally when I turn it on, a small puff of smoke from the capacitor. I'll try the warm ziplock bag.

I would be afraid that the hot air might not put enough heat energy into the system to really boil the refrigerant. The hot water may have a lower actual "temperature" but the amount of heat energy is quite high compared to hot air.
As for a puff of smoke from the capacitor, I wasn't aware the DR1 machines had a capacitor on them. There's a starting resistor, possibly, which would get warm during the start cycle.

That's a bummer. I think I've been using both my DR-1s in daily use for over a year without any hickups, though I also have 2 more DR-1's (one that's rebuilt like yours) that won't get cold and has a problem with the start winding relay.
Since your evap is so small, I don't know if you're able to get your hands on a 3 row ice cube tray on ebay? Fill that up with hot water and put it in the evap. Or the other option is to get a small saucepan (if you can fit one in there) with almost boiling water; I used to do this when I was trying to bleed out NCGs from my CA tops.

Hey all, I just wanted to follow up... after hot water bags and heater ice trays failed, I purchased a Kat's 24150 150 Watt 4"x 5" Universal Hot Pad Heater on Amazon for $35. It's used to heat up engine blocks or something and it gets super hot. I plugged it in and left it in the evaporator while running for about two minutes and it heated everything up too hot to touch. I unplugged it and closed the door and my DR has been running again like a champ ever since!
Thanks very much David, Birkie, and Casulaguy for the help again! Steve

I’m glad that worked, but be careful. I did that and a bit of debris is now stuck in the check valve of my oldest DR.

I’m glad that worked for you. It was obviously oil logged and cranky.

I have 2 DR1s that I'm wondering if they have stuck floats or are oil logged. I might try this as well and see if it helps. Someone also suggested putting the compressor upside down for a week or so, then righting it back and seeing if that helps.

Unfortunately, after a couple weeks, it resorted back to not getting cold enough to cycle off. The heating pad doesn't seem to have any affect any more. Could there be something else to check?
