As much as I want a globe top, the amount of examples I've seen with the legs about to collapse is rather disconcerting. $500 is a bit steep regardless.

Curious how they were the "budget" model, thin and flimsy, but the novel appearance makes people think that even rusted out they are more valuable than other models.

I did not remove the liner, but other than the surface rust on the top of it (that was removed with media blast), there is not a spot of rust anywhere on this thing. I am absolutely amazed at the condition of this CG

I didn't mean to imply that yours was rusty; I just meant in general, even the crooked-leg ones they think are higher dollar--

Just be aware that they do have rust issues. My nice original likely got put into storage early in life.
The pricing issues are simply that no one knows what they’re worth. You have antiqueappliances.com suggesting they’re worth thousands.
You can always offer less and I often do. The $500 balltop is good for it’s unit and parts, unless Doug wants to rebuild the cabinet.

This one literally has been sitting in a barn out of the weather in Maysville, KY for god knows how long.

I would at least pull the bottom strip off of cabinet and take a peek. My ck2- b16 was very clean, no rust on bottom side of motor. But when I pulled the liner out there was rust on the bottom. The bottoms of those cabinets has thicker metal in them than ball tops . When I redo mine I we’ll definitely pull liner and have a look probably reinsulate . Was thinking about adding an additional plate on inside and welding it in place . Just moving it around I can see the legs flexing as opposed to an MT they are solid . But that’s my opinion I’m a bit of a perfectionist.

Looking at these initially, I just figured they were aluminum and I would clean them up and try to finish them in a brass appearance for my project. So how happy was I to discover last night that they are actually plated brass that polished up beautifully?

Yep. Underneath all that pesky nickel, they are brass.

I think that in the time period we're talking about, brass was actually cheaper than aluminum. And as eventually discovered, a lot more durable--

Yep. Underneath all that pesky nickel, they are brass. These were rough. There wasn't even a lot of nickel left.
