Hello all,
I'm looking for some help getting my BH7-41A refrigerator up and running. The refrigerator was originally bought by my great grandparents and was running in my grandpa's garage up until about ten years ago.
My grandpa stopped using the fridge a couple years before he died because it was freezing everything. Eventually I ended up with the refrigerator and when I plugged it in, it cooled down right away getting well below freezing on the warmest setting.
So before I found this forum and learned that I was not supposed to remove the bellows from the thermostat, I did just that. The bellows have been out of the thermostat for at least a year while I've been working on other projects. I was wondering if I need to put the bellows in a freezer, or take any other precautions to reassemble it. Also, are there any tips for adjusting the thermostat when I get it back together?
In the mean time, I assumed that the compressor is working fine and that my problem is just with the thermostat. I have cleaned up, replaced gaskets, repainted and re-chromed the fridge and now it's just waiting on me to figure out the thermostat.
I'd appreciate any help or suggestions that you fellers could give me.
Thanks,
Tim

Coldspaces is the one to talk to about your problem . He posted a thread on taking one apart but not this exact model. Since you just posted he might not have seen it yet . Be nice if we could see some pictures of your fridge!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Hopefully I can get my thermostat to work, but I appreciate the reference for replacements Coldspaces.
I put the bellows in the freezer so I can put her all back together and see what I can figure out. Sometimes I wish I could focus on one project at a time. Maybe I could actually get something done one day.
I'll try to get some photos at some point if I can figure out where I left my camera.

Tim, did you get your thermostat to work? I have the same problem with a 56 model. Compressor works fine but thermostat won't shut off as designed so it keeps running and freezing up the fridge. Is there an adjustment on the thermostat? DJ

Can anyone help with this? My Compressor works fine but thermostat won't shut off as designed so it keeps running and freezing up the fridge. I took the thermostat out of the fridge and checked it out. Cleaned the contact. Contact does close and open while rotating the dial and seems to have a strong snap back. Nothing seems to be broken in the thermostat. Is there an adjustment on the thermostat? DJ

A possibility is a fault associated with the capillary tube or bellows. If the end of the capillary tube is securely clamped to the evaporator, and the evaporator is getting down to the right temperature, the bellows should contract sufficiently to actuate the switch.
