Well, she's been running for 4 months straight now and holding steady at 38 degrees fahrenheit. I have it stocked with half sodas, half waters and the occasional beer. I still haven't pumped up my nerve to remove the refrigeration unit and paint it yet. I'm really scared that I'm going to break the refrigeration lines and ruin an otherwise perfectly GREAT little fridge. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks again for helping me get it running! I love this thing and I have approval from the boss (wife) to get another one!! But if I get another one, it has to be bigger per her request. I have been scouring the usual sources but havenm't found anything....yet Rob

Just keep looking on craigslist in your area. You would be surprised how many flat tops are out there. I'm glad to hear that yours is doing well though. I know that coldspaces has had good luck with removing whole units out of the back of fridges. He might be able to give you some tips. I think he has made wooden frames to hold the evaporator in place so that the lines don't get damaged.

I haven't done a flat top but all you need is to fabricate something like the brackets the manuals shows for holding the evaporator to the condenser. With proper support on the evap. no lines should get damaged.

What area are you from? In the northeast, flat tops are fairly common on craigslist-- though they can be difficult so search for, as they aren't as distinctive as a monitor top

What I do is a search of Craigslist under the antiques section for "fridge" and "refrigerator". Then I do a search in the appliance section for "antique" and "vintage".

This is basically what I do too.. Then scroll through and look at the pretty pictures until you see a flat top. The descriptive text tends to be fairly useless most of the time.

If you want room there's a two door for sale ck on Detroits Cragslist. Bit pricey though.

Gotta love a two door. My back hates them though.

I am patient. As soon as I find one that is in good shape and is big enough to suit my wife, I'm going to snatch it up! I really want something from the 50s as I think those have the most 'style' (just my personal taste) but those seem to be prohibitively expensive. We will see. What I wouldn't give for a V handle Philco, though There's so many cool fridges out there, it's just a matter of finding one that is in reasonable condition at a reasonable price.

Wow, there's *nothing* down there at the moment (as far as flat tops are concerned). I have a theory that they're readily available at low-ish prices in places that were thriving in the early 20th century, but have declined since - like Upstate NY.

Yep, that is pretty much true. You had to be well off to afford such luxury back then.

Hi birkie, I see you're from the Shenandoah valley. I was born and raised in Charlottesville. I miss the fall and spring there. I'd go back if i didn't have sucha great job here. I hear what you're saying and I agree, but I'm not all that willing to drive to NY right away. Too much risk of going all that way just to find false advertising.

Rob,
You probably won't have to venture that far out to find what you are looking for. I will keep my eyes peeled and see what I can find near you.
