A while back I posted a thread asking you all which fridge got you started. I was too lazy to take pictures of my old Whirlpool energy hog. Well, now that it is finally time to say goodbye to this beast I took some pictures of it since I will be posting an ad for it on Craigslist. In fact, here is the link for it. I was brutally honest...I'm sure it will be a quick sell lol! This was the first "vintage" fridge that I ever got. It has been 8 years ago now. Aside from an intermittent start relay issue it has never given me a moments trouble. One morning the evaporator fan was squalling like a demented ghost. I smacked the back wall and it never came back! I have been hard on this old girl but it just keeps taking the abuse. If it were older and more efficient I would be treating it nicer, sure. But then again, it has been a faithful friend. One that got me started on my path to fridge appreciation. semo.craigslist.org/app/5738563763.htmlIf anything, it has been a reliable old (thirsty) friend. Pour one out for the ol girl. She is either going to solder on and provide somebody with her service or she is going to get crushed up to make some Haier's. I hope she gets picked up... Ray,
Your CL post makes it sound worse than it is. The hillbillies, that might want a green fridge, down where you live don't know what a relay is.

I might have that fan that was squealing, if you need it lol For $50 if it cools it should sell.

Travis, you are right. I did make it sound worse than it is. It has honestly been very reliable for its age and relative complexity (compared to what we know and love). I'm too honest for my own good, I just didn't want to make a redneck angry!
Gill, I think the fan is fine for what it is. I appreciate the offer though lol. It continued to run fine for several months after a good whack. Never did it again. Apparently this fridge likes to be smacked around! All joking aside, I would never smack around a fridge that is more old and frail.

Well, after a few back and forth sessions with some buyers who didn't know their head from a hole in the wall I got in touch with a nice gentleman and his son. He needed a fridge to keep beer cold in his shop and I needed the space. I'm glad to see that it went to someone who is going to use it. Strangely enough both of them actually liked my old fridges! The dad really liked the ck and the son really liked the 37 Frigidaire. In fact the son showed me a picture of a 50s Frigidaire that he wants to restore. I gave him a few tips. Small world. They brought a dolly, straps, and a trailer and before I could say goodbye it was gone. I know that most of you are wondering why in the heck I'm sorry to see it go. Well, after studying how this machine worked I learnt a lot about fridges. How to adjust the cut in and cut out settings on an old thermostat. How to clean mold out of a defrost drain. I spent many nights studying the watt draw of the machine. One night the switch on the ice maker that calls for water stuck on and it flooded the basement but I got a valuable lesson out of it. Don't make adjustments and walk off! I also learnt how to oil a fan temporarily (hence why the evaporator fan still isn't 100%). For most of its time with me it was a humble beer fridge. When I fell on hard times and moved into my aunts basement it faithfully became my kitchen fridge in a makeshift apartment that my parents helped me set up. It also served as our main fridge at our current house for a year. It has been to every house I've moved to since I left home (5). So I'll quit talking about it since it isn't as sexy, or efficient, or reliable as the fridges we praise. But it sure did get my foot in the door and that makes it more than special to me. All I ever wanted was an old fridge, I didn't know why back then bit I know full well now. It may have broken plastic, loose handles, a faulty relay, and a funky odor if you leave it off but it still has cold to give. So here's to you baby puke green whirlpool. I hope you last another 40 years and piss Ameren off. I'm glad that you didn't get shipped out to their "recycling center". You may just be an ugly fridge but you were also my springboard into fridgedom. I humbly pour out some Coors in your blessed name. P.S. I'm drinking the Coors now, I wasn't going to waste a whole beer! To view the photos in this post, please follow this link: drive.google.com/open?id=0B8_jm7K-ahMaY3E3cEljWUpGRFk
