Hi. I'm Alex and I have a fair bit of experience in auto ac systems in older and newer cars and a fair bit of tools. But have never worked on a fridge.
I have a couple old international harvester fridges. Plus a couple Scouts ;-) anyways I'm going to start and restore one of them but it does not cool well and the compressor continues to run. I suspect it's low on freon, I still have to do some test. But my big question is. If the compressor is bad I'll replace it with a new one. But how do I match a new compressor to a old fridge? do I go by HP rating or BTUs?
Any help would be much appreciated

Thats a nice one,I want it. The IHs I have had plainly told when they were made on the cabinet label. Yours doesn't seem too. I would assume yours is a bit newer because of the large freezer. And correct me if I am wrong but it has a defrost heater that draws 850 watts. Would love to see more on that.

Yea the other big one is a 53 and the one with the strip across the door is a strange Canadian model and they never put the date on them
So any guidelines I should fallow when picking out a new compressor ?
Thanks

The one with the pull down handle is the only fridge my parents had .it's still going strong. They got it new in 1952 I believe. It's unbelievably heavy .If you ever watch Friends .There is an International fridge in one there apartment's.
