I just saw this post. Did anything ever happen with this machine? Looks like a cool unit. I was wondering if the windings are cooked.

I ended up recovering the charge from this machine and adding an extra service valve. Good Sporland catch all filter drier was installed and a deep vacuum pulled. After recharging it worked great. I then used the service valves to trap most of the charge in the condenser and removed the condensing unit. Sealed the lines and evap. tubing shut with a dry nitrogen charge inside. The owner then sent it off and had a full original paint job done on it. After he got it back I reinstalled the unit, evacuated the lines and evap tubing. Then it got a full rewire and new control he purchased. I already had a new relay and overload on the compressor. It looks great and has been running great for about a month at his antique store. Somewhere I have a pic of it done for you all I will have to find it and get it posted.

Gill, I think I speak for everyone when I say that you are the man!
I'm glad to hear that cool unit was saved. I'm surprised that the motor wasn't damaged but I guess the overload protected the tough old bird.

It was to old for Tecumseh to look up also. Its one of the "Pancake" compressors , they stopped making them in 1967.

That's great. It really looks good. I like the minty green color oddly enough. I bet it will run for many more years.

The DR Pepper version of this slider is pretty rare. The most plentiful are the ones labeled Coke a Cola. Speaking of Coke a Cola I need to start a thread on my water bath cooler I bought about 2 weeks ago.

A water bath cooler? Those are interesting. I've always wondered how the compressor didn't get overloaded on those types. You would think that cooling down that large of a mass of liquid would put a tremendous load on the poor compressor. I guess like anything else built back then though, over built is the name of the game.
