Here is a video where I repair and calibrate a control for one of our fridges. Hopefully this will explain the procedure for safely removing the control bellows from the thermostat by freezing it. Also, I show some of the basic aspects of checking calibration.
Over time, the parts wear inside the thermostat. This results in a gradually decreasing cabinet temperature, ending in things freezing even on the warmest setting. Normally the differential between cut-in and cut-out gets larger due to this wear, resulting in the cabinet temp decrease. This was not the case with the thermostat in this video, thankfully. There is no adjustment for the differential in these, requiring modifying the parts if that becomes necessary.
Sincerely, David
