Huh - so you're pulling a vacuum with R134a, implying that the evaporator temps are less than -15F (if I'm reading the charts correctly)? When it's running with its normal controls - what are the cycle times like? I'd also be curious to see the total kWh consumption over the course of a day compared to, say, SO2. With R134a, the compressor may be running at higher capacity (hence the usefulness of the restrictor tube to throttle the suction line, reducing compressor capacity at a slight loss of efficiency). Yep I let it go into a vacuum just to see what the watts would go down too. We all know our old refrigerating machines don't have much freezer space so I thought I should play around and experiment on freezer conversion possibilities. I will have to check the cycle time with 134a and get back to you.

After hooking the control back up and while having the top propped open to allow a hose to go in the cabinet I was getting a run time of about 2 mins 15 sec on and 25 min off. the garage was 60f and low humidity at the time. Watts were 240 at start up dropping to 220 at shut down. Then I did this too the suction line. Felt like I was closing it clear up but obviously didn't. Left it run like this for 5 days while I was too busy to do anything with it. Watts are now 220 at start up and 185-190 at shut down. Runs for about 2 min 45 sec then off about 25 min. Box temp is cold, around 30f I now have the top on it all the way and it was much warmer and very humid this time. Frost line is good with the 1lb 4 oz 134a charge. Odd how the line from the drier to the evap isn't frosting much even though everything else is.

This poor little Globe top runs and has some charge in it. It will not circulate though. It was going to be scrapped by it owner so of course I jumped at the chance to save it. So far I plugged it in and could hear some boiling in the evap coil and the condenser started to get warm. Then after it sucked out what little refrigerant was in the evap the condenser got cold again and no more boiling. I tried heat treating the evap in case it had oil logged with no change. Took off the top and inverted it and it did not equalize. Looks like it has a restricted or badly stuck float. I have a fridge exactly like this one that I sort of inherited about 20 years ago. The last time I plugged it in was this summer and it was working fine. Had a nice hum to it and it was nice and cold inside and had frost on the little freezer trays. Short story of this Fridge; It was in my Father-in-laws cottage and used as a beer fridge, and it did keep the Beer nice and cold. When he passed away the wife decided to sell the Cottage and I, being the only one with a large truck, was asked to clean and move everything. So besides all the other stuff he had hoarded over the years I ended up with this fridge. I was asked to hang onto it for the time being and did so. As the years went by I couldn't give it away or sell it because it still wasn't mine. After carting it around and moving it from house to house for about 12 years it was given to me! I didn't really want it as I am not a fridge collector but I didn't want to toss it and I have no idea what to sell it for?? Last year I had to store it outside because I have no room where I live to bring it in. In the last move it was moved by a moving company and they some how lost the GE chrome piece that went around the ball Compressor on top. Some of the white paint was peeling off to the metal and I didn't want it to rust so I spray painted it with Red Rust paint with the intentions of sand blasting it and maybe having it refinished after winter. I did that just to help protect it being outside, and I covered it really well with a couple of tarps. It was this summer that I plugged it in and it was working fine. So now I am thinking of down sizing because all the kids have left the nest, including my wife that I divorced So after all the work I put into keeping this thing in working order while moving it around all these years I would like to sell it. I have no idea what it is worth but I am open to any reasonable offers. I really do not want to take it with me anymore. Is anyone interested in this fridge? does anyone know what this fridge is worth ? Thanks for any advice you can share with me, John

John,
Without seeing it, I would guess the value to be between $100-250. You might post it on Craiglist and find someone wanting to buy that from you.
I have a couple in St. Louis that I would happily sell for $250.
