Hello, I'm new to this forum. I am in the process of purchasing a monitor top refrigerator. It is not cooling. I need to pick it up and all I have is a van. Is it okay to lay this type of refrigerator on its back to transport it? Is it possible to remove the top? Is there anyone in Northern California that could help for a fee? Thank you in advance for your input.

The cooling unit is just sitting on the cabinet. Fabricate a crate for it so the evaporator does not get damaged when you remove it. Do not lay it down as it is as you would most likely damage the cooling unit. I am unsure if it is acceptable to strap the 2 pieces together to hold them captive during transport.
David will offer better advise than I.

It will fall off, break a line, and release refrigerant gas if you lay it down. If you need the non-cooling problem fixed, I can help you with that but if you aren't willing or able - you'll have to send it to me in Alabama for repairs. EDIT: Your machine is a CA Form B machine. The CA machines are very different from any other refrigerating machine ever made. There are very few who can work on them; and many CA machines have been ruined by well-meaning repair attempts. It is very easy to destroy these. Sincerely, David

The best way is to lift the top off and have a crate made to set it on . But having said that I transported all of mine laying on there side but firmly strapped to the cabinets . You don’t want the top coming off in transit. The reason for separate
the two is to try and keep all the crap that has settled in the bottom to stay there. And also they were to my knowledge always shipped upright. Perhaps some others we’ll give there opinion!
