Thanks for the phone call today! It seems that you are a victim of the "common modern repair technician" who knows nothing about older equipment nor about actually troubleshooting. Seems like you may have moisture in the system causing this problem of cooling for a while then stopping.
Your fridge has two separate cooling systems, one driven by the compressor and cooling the freezer; and a second system cooling the fridge compartment, cooled by the freezer as opposed to its own compressor.
