Also, as this is a cabinet made mostly out of wood (differing from my CK cabinets), will it be less structurally stable over time?

Hi Adnrew. It's good that you got a working DR3! They tend to be the most likely to be dead, because of the higher horsepower motor and higher temperatures they operate at. Good ones are a special find!
As for the wood, I would not dig too deeply into the cabinet unless you see severe rotten wood which may be structurally compromised. It can be very hard to get the original fit once wood replacement is undertaken. The hardwood is pretty rot-resistant. You should be able to clean the visible areas and they're probably stained but still sound.

Andrew,
Remove the loose exterior panels, vacuum and clean. I suspect you’ll find it to be better than you fear. That’s an old Seeger cabinet.

I see thats good to know, I will avoid replacing wood where I can, with the only places that really seem to need replacing are the small bits of wood around the door openings and one of the bottom leg cross bars. I will keep posting as I make progress!
