Here is a new video I made, showing 100% of the rewiring procedure for a CK-2 Monitor Top fridge. This could be applied to the CA machines as well, with minor changes. There have been a lot of requests for this video. I've done several other videos showing rewiring as part of a larger repair, but I think those have proven confusing or overwhelming for people who are just wanting to rewire, and are not completely confident. So; this video shows only the following procedure: -Safe removal of the control and the start-relay. -Proper position of the cooling unit for access to the bottom of the compressor. -Proper access to the wiring inside the unit. -Length and size of the new wiring, and soldering to compressor. -Usable types of terminals for the new wiring. -Internal inspection of the thermostat and start-relay. -Lubrication of the thermostat moving parts. -Re-assembly. https://youtu.be/OA34qlWvvDM EDIT: I have made another video covering rewiring of the cabinet light circuit. It is available here: monitortop.freeforums.net/thread/2572/ Hope you find this useful! Sincerely, David

This is an excellent instructional video. I've made it a sticky in the CK section. Thanks for making it!

Still haven’t had time to watch it yet but I’m sure it’s great. Thank you so much for doing this David.

This is an excellent instructional video. I've made it a sticky in the CK section. Thanks for making it! Thanks for stickying it. I've been wanting to do a good video like this for a while. Most of my rewiring has been done as part of larger repairs. I have pointed people to those as rewiring help, however, it seems that this often causes confusion as to what part of the work done in the video is required for rewiring, versus the other repairs. Still haven’t had time to watch it yet but I’m sure it’s great. Thank you so much for doing this David. Glad to help; and surely it will save us a lot of time in the future repeatedly explaining the same thing over and over. Sincerely, David

With alot of help from your video i was able to rewire my ck-2-C16, the wires were very bad. This refrigerator was purchased brand new by my grandpa then my Dad had it for years i got it earlier this year. It had ran since it was new, luckily i found this forum and got it rewired before something bad happened. Hopefully now it will last another 80 some years and i can pass it down to my son. Thank you!!

Thank you do much for this video.. I recently got a CK1 based on part numbers on thermostat and relay appears to be a 1938 model. 42-334-208 (is there any kind of cross referance on serial numbers?) I was told it worked. I plug it in to sparks from everywhere. Wiring fried.... I followed this video like a bible and I just fired it up and "it's alive".... Before I put it back on the box it's a trip to Home Depot for weather stripping for door and the two seals under the compressor on top of the "box". THANK YOU so much for creating the video!! I'll post pics of my adventure when I get it put back together..

I'm sure this fridge will give you decades of great service! Please share your pictures and story on a new thread so that it will get the attention it deserves! Sincerely, David

Lovely video. For the thermostat termination, you used a circular grommet that was remarkably close to the factory crimp-in grommet.
Is that a special grommet or the fabric grommet that is sold in the big box and harbor freight?

They aren't the highest quality but they do the job.

The Arrow brand eyelet tool kit ringlets are made of steel and are copper, brass and bright plated. They work quite nicely for holding the wires to the compressor pins during the tight quarter soldering!
My thermostat however, seems to have originally had a molded receptacle connector, so I will need to do something different. The wires were "repaired" by using what appeared to be "spiral bound notebook" steel wire! No wonder it did not cycle back on for a demand for cool!!!

Oh yeah, that control looks like a CA or a CK30 style control. Those had the twist-to-release plug on the back of the thermostat. Look to be sure what HP rating is listed on the control, for the overload. If it was for a larger CK30 compressor it might not protect a smaller unit. If it was for a CA machine then the HP will be correct. You can often use a replacement extension cord end to connect to that control. I used the Arrow grommets to form the thermostat connections for the screw type connector, but not for the comrpessor pins, by the way. The compressor pin sleeves were electrical crimp terminals.
