Ok this fridge worked great till one day it's running non stop but only getting cool. Not sure on correct model since my numbers don't match up. Tag says it's a g100 number 1c12375. It's a flat top. Tag on compressor base says 71-135-073. Looking to get this fixed. I fix everything except HVAC stuff kinda lost here.

At a guess, those numbers sound like something more modern than the 1936-1941 Flat Tops with a Scotch Yoke compressor and float valve. The compressor should have a number beginning with either CF, CE, CJ, CH, or FBA. The service manual is available here www.cool386.com/ge_service/ge_service.html if you want to try matching it up with any of the models listed.

If you can post a picture of the compressor and the whole fridge cabinet, it will help us to identify it and assist with troubleshooting. Sincerely, David

Wow, that's a very nice piece. That's a two-door Monitor Top cabinet with a FEA unit mounted to it. The FEA is a reliable unit, however some of them have developed moisture problems in the lines and need a drier installed. Others have developed leaks. Either way, that is very much worth fixing!

Thank you for the help. I'll get some research done and see where to go next. Not fixing is not an option. So thank you very much. Will update

I would look through the manuals for fea’s . They were a replacement for the original monitor top unit that sat on that cabinet. I remember people having trouble with the fan on the fea’s (it not being oiled) so would not spin . I’d check that see if it’s spinning. Also something that old might be clogged with dust and dirt. Just a few suggestions!

So hope final update. After a year and a half of being on a list I proceeded to acquire the equipment I needed. First found no leak just no charge. Recharged with r414b a r12 equivalent. Ran great as normal for about a month plus. Then one night compressor rattled and stopped. Relay kicked out. Bypassed relay compressor still only hummed. So removed compressor added a r134 compressor and a filter drier into system. Had one leak not bad. Fixed that and charged. So two weeks in I think it's going well. Cycles about the same, runs quiet and cooling well. So as a novice on fridge stuff I am hoping this is close to right and keeps working. I thank this site greatly for all I learned, the history and technical info is invaluable.

Glad you got it going! Hopefully the new compressor lasts a long time for you.
Sadly, blended refrigerants like R414B are very bad for these machines. This is what caused your compressor to seize up because it separates in the flooded evaporator and leaves only the high pressure fractions to circulate.
Where did you find the original leak? Just curious.
