Hello I was recently given a 38 or 39 Hotpoint refrigerator. It rode on a trailer to my house and laid on its side over night, so I sat it upright for a day before trying to use. First time I tried it, relay got hot, and condenser fan was frozen up and wouldn’t turn. Original was a 3 wire, replaced with a two wire. Then changed the relay to a 3 n 1 hard start. If I run power directly to fan and compressor thru the relay, the compressor and fan run but compressor does not get cold and in fact the tank on the bottom just gets hot. If I wire according to directions I received the light in the fridge works but the fan and compressor will not turn on. Ive replaced all the original wiring except for the compressor. This fridge is a sentimental item to me so I’m really hoping it’s something simple. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Being a Hotpoint, it sounds like it's a rebadge of a GE Flatop, possibly a CE or CH. What is printed on the compressor label?

If it is a CF variant - those didn't use a condenser fan. So something unusual is going on there.

The Hotpoint fridges used a fan cooled condenser with a scotch yoke unit in this time period.

Thanks for sharing my video! Yeah; that's about all that kills these compressors.

These did use a three wire fan motor. Black, white, and green wires. The green wire is not a ground wire! I believe the fan motor used a starting and running winding like the compressor. Not sure how to convert it to a new two wire fan motor.

Not sure how to convert it to a new two wire fan motor. The three-wire fan required signals from the compressor start winding and run winding, and common. The two-wire fan simply connects to Common and Run circuits.
