I have an old GE refrigerator with the compressor encased in a square box. It is a type FEA 35 A16, double door. It still cools and freezes. Was it made in 1935? Why are there no photos or information on the internet for it?

The reason why you won't find anything on the internet is because the FEA is a post-war factory replacement for faulty Monitor Top units; they were never sold with a new cabinet. Until 1942, faulty Monitor Top units were rebuilt by GE. After the war, the FEA was built as a replacement. It uses a similar cooling unit to the Spacemaker fridges. So, no it is not 1935. The oldest it would be is 1946. However, the cabinet you have is prewar. It would have originally had a DR or CK Monitor Top that went faulty. If you can upload some pics of what you have, we can be more specific. The link you have given is to your local computer, so only you can see it. One source of information not to be overlooked is the patent numbers on the cooling unit.

Also Wyane many people think the square top as the FEA units are often called are less desirable looking than the monitor tops. My self I think all the old refrigerating machines are cool. As you can see we have helped diagnosis an FEA before, join the group and upload some info on yours. Maybe you can help other FEA owners.
Watching for pics. Coldspaces
