Some of you probably saw pictures of the shape my handles were in on my earlier post about my new two door CK.   One was missing the round spinning end of the part that interacts with the handle receiver, and the other one was seriously worn inside, with the piece that gets rotated on being completely worn. I used some brass bar and a tiny lathe to machine two pieces the right size, and placed them on. For the handle only missing a piece, the round part works great! With the very worn piece, the handle is very stiff, but functions now. Here's a video of the hinges working. |

Thank you very much for the video and photographs, and for sharing the details of the work you have done! I am particularly interested in this door handle overhaul. Do the latches spring closed when you close the doors? I have one latch that won’t.

Do the latches spring closed when you close the doors? I have one latch that won’t. The door handle with the brass spinning piece on the outside works perfectly. It was not too bad of a fix, since the handle was perfect except for that one missing piece. The right side handle was a different story. The bushing was completely worn inside, and the cover plate was missing. I simply silver soldered a piece the same size as the broken bushing, and silver soldered it into place. This one gets slightly stuck in the open position, and has to be tapped for it to go back down. Even so, they both close easily when closing the doors. here's a video of them. |

Good work! Only thing I will say is that I would not close the door with the handle in the closed position. It is harder on the hardware all around. I would close it in the open position so that it doesn’t have to ride up that ramp.

They are supposed to have an overcenter spring mechanism which will cause them to stay in the pulled position, with the latch lever up. Once you close the door, the latch lever touches the upper part of the latch striker, which pushes it down and off the overcenter position. The spring then pulls the latch closed. I commented on your video as well, but want to repeat it here for others to benefit from. It seemed like one of yours did go overcenter, but the other didn't. Sincerely, David |

i have 3 double door cabinets. the right side handle is worn more then the left hand handle on all 3. luckily i bought a box of parts in chicago with numerous handles, hinges, and some control parts for 25 bucks. sold 1 control for $50 dollars and have used other parts on my machines. best 25 bucks i ever spent. lol
