Hello...I have the monitor top listed in the subject line at my summer cabin. It has been working fine for the 20 or so years I’ve owned it during the summer months (unplugged during the winter when it snows). This year it fired up fine for a few days then wouldn’t keep cool or freeze ice. It kept running continuously but wouldn’t cool down so I unplugged it and got a small undercounted backup fridge to get me by until I could figure out what to do. It’s been about three months since I unplugged it and today I plugged it in and it started up fine and started to cool as normal.
i read some of the other forum posts today about placing a pan of hot water in the freezer section and tapping on the service port but thought I’d register for this forum and see what those of you with knowledge and expertise might have to say first.
Any help on how to diagnose, service or repair this great old refrigerator would be very much appreciated... Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you hear the unit making any strange noises when this occurred? It sounds to me like the unloader May have stuck open or the float valve may have stuck closed. If it is cooling well now I would just keep an eye on it and see how it behaves.

Hello and welcome to the forum! What you’re referring to is an oil log situation , where oil gets stuck in the condenser. It’s won’t hurt to preform the operation to free it up. This just consists of making it work harder ,but it’s old so keep an eye on the old fridge. All you have to do is place very hot water in the evaporator and let it run . This makes it work harder and can push out any oil stuck in the evaporator. Scene you only run it every so many months I can see where this could happen.
Also I’m sure that wiring needs replaced. Let us know how it goes.
Just out of curiosity what state are you located in ?
