what refrigerant CANT i use? there is so many ? what would you recommend? i would be willing to pay for some methyl formate if u want to part with some

There is a very limited choice of refrigerants suitable for CA machines because these are unlike any other domestic refrigerator (except the Grunow from the same era). The system operates mostly in a vacuum. "Normal" fridges operate with a pressure well above atmospheric. Although the principles of refrigeration are the same, the operating conditions are not. If you were to put in something like R12 or R134a, or any of the refrigerants that work in DR or CK machines, the compressor would stall.
Even if I wanted to sell you some methyl formate, it would be impossible - I'm on the other side of the world, and it requires special shipping since it is listed as a hazardous substance. I was able to purchase it because at the time I worked for an educational institution. If you know someone similarly employed in the educational, scientific, or medical fields, it would be possible to get methyl formate. Failing that, I suggest you stick with R123 or R11.
