I posted just a few weeks ago about possibly buying a DR-1 in good looking cosmetic shape for $180. I had already replied to that post about removing the SO2, which went well I'd say. Purged with nitrogen a bunch of times. Vacuumed, then filled the fridge with like 35+oz of R152A. Got that thing cooling super good. Cycle times were good. Cabinet was around 36-38f, freezer right around 0f. I told myself okay, now i have to tear into this further and fix the leak it has...
So the reason for this is because I have torn it down to a point where I am stuck. I cut the lines, removed the bellows tube, I got the evap coil off, upon removing the 8 screws for the plate there, they were all very nasty, eroded, and caked with yellow sulfur dust just like my bubbler was in the Washing Soda Solution. Also all the particle board has to be replaces as it is all chock full of SO2 smell and its moldy looking. I have pinpointed my leak to the suction line going into the compressor. SO now i am stuck at getting that 90yo nut off and replacing whatever seal or flare is in there. So i ask you, what IS in there? How do i get that nut off? I already smacked it pretty sternly with an adjustable wrench and a hammer, maybe i should find a proper fitting box end. In the pictures i am going to link here photos.app.goo.gl/G2qUnjmEiAzuzpSr9 I have pressurized the compressor and float to 120psig about. Sprayed bubbles onto the compressor suction line and that's the only spot. When i had the fridge together and sitting with nitrogen for a week~ it lost 35psi over that time.
Also would like to change the compressor oil since there is still a slight SO2 odor, figure this may help out.
Since typing up this, I have had the evap coil pressurized with 120~ psi and it hasn't lost it in a week. Bubble check showed nothing anywhere. It has got to be that darn nut on the suction side of the compressor!!
Thanks guys! Turbo said a few of you may have gotten a DR-1 to this point and gotten a leak out of that same spot. At least now I can redo the wiring EZPZ
