15$ what can you say I’m glad you saved it ! Another great video thanks! You're welcome! I will rewire, re-gasket, and offer it for sale locally since I don't have room for more right now. Did the compressor get cold initially?... I thought that there could be refrigerant in the compressor housing at first making the odd cyclical power draw. The base of the compressor was cool; but everything was sort of cool because of hauling it on a trailer in a day with cool temps outside. I think it was slightly cooler than ambient, though.

Don’t these units have an oil pressure operated unloader? I imagine gas bubbles would cause the oil pressure to drop...

Don’t these units have an oil pressure operated unloader? I imagine gas bubbles would cause the oil pressure to drop... Probably that is what happened. The compressor being in he base would make it likely for refrigerant to collect there as well.

Great find! I bet the previous owner bought it and plugged it in and thought it didn't work....because it took awhile to get cold....maybe they didn't run it long enough??

In this case, we'll probably never know what happened. The seller told an obvious long and contrived fairy tale and started to get nervous when I let on that I was "knowledgeable" in these fridges.

I’m just glad it went to you, someone who can actually know what proper operation is.

Nice CF! I wonder what it was supposedly recharged with? 1939 is too early for the R12 modified Scotch Yoke compressor anyway.

Thanks y'all. I believe the fridge has its original charge of SO2 and the seller made up a fairy tale for some reason.
