It's an interesting question. The OC-2 which preceded the DR has the initials of Clark Orr who designed it. There doesn't seem to be any correlation after the DR, but there are a few loose exceptions which may be co-incidental; LK - the "L" for Lift, CG - the "G" for Globe (their official GE name is "Ball", but they're most commonly known outside GE as "Globe") [Model CB was already designated to an earlier open machine], DK - the "D" for Drain (as in kitchen sink drain board). The "C" prefix used on most of the models doesn't seem to mean anything as it encompasses a wide range of models which haven nothing in common with each other; e.g. CM open belt drive SO2, vs. CA hermetic methyl formate. Would "C" perhaps stand for "compressor" with the second letter being the series in development? - Interesting to note the CA followed straight after the DR. Exceptions to this are the LK and DK, and this could be because of the models CL and CD having previously been designated to open drive machines.

That's interesting cable. Was the FEA ever referred to as a SY(Scotch-Yoke)?....would make sense. Perhaps the other models used Initials of inventors as well?? If we had the list of every one at GE that perfected the different models...we could then compare to see?
