New to your forum. I purchased a GE square top refrigerator. I am working on rewiring it and have question how to remove the metal cup that wiring goes through. I am in need of how this comes off to get to the wiring to replace it. Any help would be great!! Thank you www.keepandshare.com/photo3/12792/ge-motortop-compressor

Hello and welcome! The square tops I have seen did not have a cover over the wiring going to the compressor. Sounds like you have a latter unit. The same type compressor was used in the GE Spacemakers made starting after WW2. They had a round cover that is hard to remove. The first one I did I split the bottom with a sharp chisel. Next one cut cut it on the bottom with a Dremel and small cut off wheel. Both got silicon to hold them in place after the rewire.
I tried to pry the first one off with no luck. One would need to make a tool that fits the curve and clamps it good and try to remove it. That I haven't tried to make one yet. They must have fit them pretty tight to make sure they would stay in place.

Here is my first one after trying to pry it off and then chiseled it off. Cut off wheel worked better.

Thank you. I just found a free site to up load pictures for a link to share them with my posts on this forum. I am going to load the link so others can see. That is the same cover you posted. I just didn't want to brake anything. I am rewiring it to take it to a guy to recharge it the first of the week. I picked this one up from Ill last Sunday. The refrigerator has been repainted with automotive paint job. Again thank you I can now upload link to the pictures for future posts!!

BTW you don't need to cut it far as I did on this first one. Just near the compressor end.
