I bought a CK-2-B16 off of Facebook marketplace for $100. The guy said it worked 14 years ago when he took it out if his Grandmothers house and put it in storage. I bought supplies to assemble a new power cord and wired it in. Plugged it in and it started right up. I had ice cubes and cold ice tea the next morning.. so I’m very happy with my purchase and I intend to use it in my kitchen. I’m looking around for a metal finishing shop to sand blast and redo the nickel plating on the racks. I have two more questions. Question the first: The unit looks good but I’d like to get it shiny again. What do you like to use to polish the original exterior surface? I’m leaning towards a Turtle Wax polishing compound for cars. Will that work? Second question .. the rubber door gasket needs to be replaced. What do you guys use and how do you install it? Is it a matter of removing all the screws on the inside of the door?

Congratulations on your ck and welcome If you look at my avatar it’s a 1935 ckb16 on an older ca cabinet . It’s been preforming very nice for approximately 3 years now no problems. I have roughly 1000$ in it but I wanted to have a show piece when done . I had everything professionally painted buy some one that works on old cars , had all pieces rechromed ,racks powder coated silver. I totally rewired and insulated it , and new door gasket myself. But it’s up to you how much or little you do your self .
I’m very glad it’s working and you started working on it. Just a general good cleaning we’ll help . Is the cabinet porcelain or painted ? Porcelain is easy to clean and very durable, but it is a form of glass (I found out the hard way) so treat it as such . But I would try a good car polish on either finish and see how it works. I used car polish on my porcelain parts and the black trim around the door and it worked great .
You also need to replace all the wiring on the fridge, this is more involved but can be done easily enough (look in ck section how I rewired my ck ) . The wiring gets very brittle and hard and starts leaking to ground on the fridge.
Door gaskets look in the supplier section for a replacement. I used one from McMaster Car and it works very well self adhesive.
