So just noticed that my CK isn't getting as cold as it should be. It gets a healthy amount of frost on the evaporator which I just defrosted today. However, even on 9, it struggles to freeze ice cubes. Drinks aren't very cold either. I haven't checked the cabinet temperature or the cycle times, but possibly a thermostat issue? It was doing fine for the past few months, and this is more of a recent issue. Hi Zach. To know what's going on here, you would need to know if the compressor is running more often and for longer than it should. If the compressor is not running long enough then the thermostat is not calling for cooling often enough. It may need calibration.
If the compressor runs most of the time and still does not freeze ice, then there could be something wrong with the system.
There is a chart in the manual which shows the expected evaporator temperatures for a given control position. If you have a remote probe thermostat you could use this to fine-tune the control.

Actually the defrost might have solved the problem. Run times range between 2.5min and 4.25 min. Off times are between 13 and 15min. It's 68 in the garage with the thermostat set to 9. It's 42 degrees on the top shelf right next to the evaporator. It's making ice like it's supposed to. Though I thought it was supposed to freeze stuff in the top shelf if turned to 9.

It might be oil logged where the oil gets stuck in the evaporator. You can try and put a pan of very hot water in the evaporator. This makes it work extra hard and can force out the oil stuck in the evaporator. I didn’t catch if you put new door seals on . This is a must for these old fridges.

Actually, that's what I did to defrost the unit. I was too impatient to wait for the ice to melt, so I chucked a pan of boiling water inside the evaporator before turning it back on. The ice fell off in pretty large chunks. It was still fairly hot when I turned it back on, and I let it run with the water overnight to freeze it. It might have had the same effect without knowing about that procedure. Also, is there a drip tray for these units when defrosting? I couldn't find a dish that would get every drop of water so I ended up using a tarp. (Weird but works) And yes, brand new door seals as well as cabinet to compressor seals

Yes they have glass chiller dishes for that specific fridge. There’s some on eBay but watch the price, 50$ is a reasonable price I think. Just type in glass chiller dish and some well pop up . I’ve bought several that way . I ask them to double rap them had two arrived in pieces. monitortop.freeforums.net/thread/1286/chiller-trays

For utilitarian purposes, you can use an Anchorware rectangular glass casserole dish of the right size until you find a real one of the right vintage.

Yeah, I'll have to try that for now as I haven't been able to find any original ones. The current dish I have didn't do a very good job of it. I'll eventually track one down though
