Oh no, not the DR1 you restored for your wife! Sorry to hear that, but glad you have a workaround.
Do you have any plans for the top that failed (take it apart for the sake of science, or fix it)?

Man that is a beauty.... What did you strip it with? Sand Blaster, spray on paint stripper, and wire wheel on a drill.

No, thank God the red DR1 is still working great! Not sure if I will ever try to rebuild the white DR1 since the windings are shot. It had a beautiful white paint job when I bought it a couple of years ago

It’s nice to see you post Allan. Yes Travis nice to visit back. Life has taken away my Monitor Top time for a while but hope to have more in the near future.

I did look up your past postings, and was dismayed at the thought that the beautiful red DR might have been the one which failed. Not that it's OK for ANY of them to fail, but glad it wasn't THAT one.
Sincerely, David

Nice job on stripping the paint . Did you actually use sand for blasting or something else? Thought sand would be a little rough on the condenser coils.

Glad it was not the red DR1 after all. By DR1 gives a bit of a tingle if you touch it while it's running (windings to ground was only ~84k), so I fear some day it'll suffer a similar fate. It's too bad the DR1s have a welded dome.
Best of luck placing the CA top in action
