Hello, I am new here, having just introduced myself just recently on this CK board, and I was also considering repainting my Monitor among other things. It appears to have had successive coats of various shades of white applied to it over the years, and it makes me wonder how these machines came originally when new? What are the original colors the GE Monitor came in when sold new, or is it just white? Was the non-porcelain cabinet designed to be painted any color the customer wished? Were these all sold in a base shade of primer and then painted by the customer?
Also, on a related subject, what kind(s) of accessories did a CK-2-B16 come with or you could buy extra for it when it was new at the GE dealer? Ice trays, crispers, storage containers, water and juice bottles, etc???
I don't understand lol...
I think it would be fun if I could load my CK up with a bunch of neat extra stuff!
THANKS EVERYBODY for chiming in!
MARK.

Oh yes, there were many accessories available. If you look for them on eBay you will find them all for a price. Ice trays, water bottles, square storage dishes, crisper drawers (rare for a size 2 like yours), chiller trays, all kinds of stuff really. There would have been a little ice tray tool and hanger on the door originally. The tool prices up the trays when they are frozen to the evaporator. The GE trays themselves are kind of hard to find actually. Just start searching for old GE accessories and you will find all kinds of stuff. Post them here and we will let you know if they are period correct or not.

Hi Mark. I always refer to the color of the old refrigerators as "nicotine stain yellow" because it reminds me of a smoked-out car interior LOL! The tops originally were white, matching the finish used on the porcelain cabinets. By now; they all seem to have various nasty brushed-on paintjobs, cracking up layer by layer. It's a horrible job to clean off all the old paint! It's so rewarding when the new paint is on, though. Definitely worth it.
There is a market for restored fridges but it's very regional. It seems that white is going to be the most universal color; however there are some stunning paintjobs out there in other colors. If you "save" these fridges with the intent of finding new homes for them; I would say that white would be the least "market limiting" color.
Hey, also did you get the start-relay and wiring done?
