This is a shot of my CA2 form B that has amazed me since installing the ice trays. Since the cap tube conversion I had always left the freezer empty. Now with the trays cycle times are improved and the frost line is rock steady! The compressor has less rattling than ever and mostly runs with no rattle at all Look at the size of that ice cube tray!!!

Hello...I'm new to the forum and have enjoyed reading all the great info here on the CA machines. I recently aquired a CA Form B machine with a bad "oil conditioner". As suggested elsewhere, I've attempted to contact Ben Midulla at ATS to obtain some of the 12W, 120V heaters (#20902), but emails go unanswered, as well as three separate voice mails. I'm assuming they're out of business. Has anyone had any luck sourcing them elsewhere? I tried NSI (Nordic Sensors, dba "cartridge-heaters-online.com") and, although they were very helpful and could spec the correct dimensions (12mm x 64mm), the lowest wattage they could do in that size is 25W. They claim the resistance wire is just too fragile to go any finer. Really not keen on running this thing hotter than what GE engineers originally specified. I know I could make my own out of a pair of resistors, but would prefer something OEM for safety purposes. Ideas? Hello! Part number (#20902) is available now from Phoenix Thermal Supply. 844-787-4328. Give them a call for your 120V 12W or 120v 25W. 12MM and 12.5MM Diameter Heaters. They can stock and will make to order any custom size Insertion Cartridge Heaters standard or metric. Great Customer Service and support. They handle all Applied Thermal Solutions, Midulla, Farmery, ATS parts. I'm assuming you work for Phoenix Thermal Supply? Thank you for taking the time to join and comment. It's always nice to see when suppliers do such things. Would you like me to add this info to our "Suppliers" list?

I just ordered two heaters from Phoenix Thermal Supply. $33 each plus shipping. They had them in stock and should be sending them out today or tomorrow. I have read of a lot of long wait times for these heaters from other sources, and higher prices. They had 7 in stock. I just wanted to pass this along as this forum has been incredibly helpful to me.
I bought a 1934 CA last Sunday. New wiring and a heater to start with.

I have recently aquired a CA which was not a "plug and play" unit. Will require all the routine procedures that are expected of an unmaintained 86 year-old piece of equipment (rewire, NCG purge, possibly kick a stalled compressor, cosmetics).
Step one here is to replace the heater. Initially, I thought the heater was OK as the unit was showing a small power draw with an inline Kill-a-Watt meter; However, upon check with an analog multimeter, the heater is ringing as an open circuit.
The OD of the heater mics to be 0.485" (12.319mm). I want to get the right thing here, so the simple question I have without needing to go off topic in this thread:
Do I go with 12mm or 12.5mm?

The tube is supposed to be 1/2", but I've seen enough variance that I use 12mm.

Just a follow up. USPS managed to destroy the envelope PTS clearly marked "Hand Cancel Only" when they mailed me the heater. The ripped open envelope was returned to PTS marked "Return to Sender".
Second attempt included clear packing tape encasing the envelope. It arrived in good order. USPS again failed to cancel the 2 John Lennon Forever stamps PTS used as postage.
Notes on the heater:
1) It is slightly smaller in diameter than the factory original MgO cartridge heater. I considered bushing it in thinwall tubing for a good fit in the well, but just used it as is. 2) The outer casing of the heater is stainless steel. 3) Lead length is more than adequate (not a concern), and the insulation is a double layer of woven fiberglass/telflon. 4) Stranded conductors of the leads were able to be tinned and soldered. 5) Before installation into rewired CA unit, Kill-a-Watt showed new heater/cable assy. to be pulling 11W. For some reason now as the heater is operating in the rewired unit, with control in OFF position, the Kill-a-Watt it showing 13W... I have not recabled the main power cord yet, however, I am just trying to get it running right now.
p.s. protip for rewiring a CA should include instruction on giving plenty of additional 2 conductor cable for the connection to the control relay. What a royal PITA that was to put together. I had made up my new harness identical to the factory original.
