I don’t know how to reply, it looks like a monitor day refrigerator. From my prospective it’s very sad !!

Considering that it was dead it’s a good thing. I’ve been fortunate enough to never have found a stalled DR1.

It would need to be cut open, re-wound, and welded back shut. That would take some serious dedication and $$.
By the way, do you still have the evaporator? That might be neat to dissect.

Back in July I created a post about a DR 1 that wont start, and was asked to give an update. And what I found, 2 legs of the windings were shorted, so I left it up to my friend what he wanted to do, To be honest with you, I love this little DR, I really dident want to see him junk it, so I worked a deal with him to convert it and save the little guy. So here is a pics of the conversion, I know it was a back in July but I had shoulder surgery and that kept me down. But I about got it finished, I do want to thank everyone on here for being patience with me, because I really dont know to much about these units, its a learning curve. Like I said before, this is a great sight and appreciate the help. BTW looking for a good set of hinges.
Hey it's good that you chose to save your DR1 "in spirit" even if some of the magic is gone now. For your repair, it looks like a modern external condensing unit was mounted under / on the back of the cabinet, with its matching evaporator inside? I'm sure this will provide years of service with little maintenance. I expect that was one of the main decision points you used to decide for this repair.
I'm a technical type guy who eventually wants to overhaul one of these machines; as in open the compressor and repair the original motor and pump inside. When that day comes, surely the project and results will be posted on this forum. I know that the conversion with custom parts you used was not inexpensive. I don't know what the cost of a rebuild of a DR unit would be, but surely it would be higher due to the time involved. In my case, I would be providing the time myself, other than possibly the stator rewinding.
A lot of us here on this forum are interested in these machines because of the sound they make, and the fact that the old machinery still does its job well. We generally aren't into this to "just have a functional fridge." In that light, there are guys who loathe seeing this sort of conversion. I personally would choose another path to get cooling again; but it is very much a personal choice! Again I am happy you chose to install a new cooling system on your DR instead of sending it to the recycler. Please keep us informed as to how well it performs in the long run.
Hope your shoulder heals up well. I have had some shoulder pain in the past which was fairly debilitating. In my case it was not enough damage to require surgery, and physiotherapy was able to solve the problem.
Sincerely, David

Well I guess I understand wanting it to work! But it’s not what I could do . Seeing that fan inside it’s (%#^%#&) not normal.

Anybody notice that the original poster has removed all traces of his visit to the forum?

That’s odd, what he did made sense considering.

That’s odd, what he did made sense considering. Agreed, and I tried to express that same opinion to him... Dunno.
