The one that slides into the rails in the shelf under the evaporator is the right one--

The one that slides into the rails in the shelf under the evaporator is the right one-- Honestly this is the right answer. Some purists would cringe but I use the chiller tray from my CA in the DR1 sometimes because it covers the whole evaporator. However, to complicate things more, the cabinet my DR1 sits on was made for a series A with the roundie open evaporator which means that the shelf is shaped differently. That means that the shelf area for the chiller tray isn’t wide enough for the chiller tray that will cover the wider B series DR1 evaporator. Oh well. You live and you learn. It fits well enough to work.

Ok this question has got me thinking.. Does the chiller try have a purpose other than catching water when you defrost it or does it help the fridge work more efficient??

The chiller tray should be slightly larger than the evaporator. There are approximately three sizes for single evaporator units.
In my opinion, the DR1 and CA1 would be the same. The CA2 and CK2 would be a bit larger and the CK30's and larger and deeper. There are also versions where the ribbing is side to side vs. front to back. I bought some DR1 parts and a tray in a group once. That seemed to fit a DR1. The latest CA1B came with a tray much too large, though I had something smaller. These things do get mixed up.
I may have a chiller tray for an old DR2. I've never known what they had. Doug has chiller trays in his D35 that are original, but I've never seen before. There's also a half sized version for a double evap model. There's a dipped edge on the left that led me to believe they might have made a version with a dipped edge on the right. Sadly, I have 3 of the left side. I recently nabbed a forth and it's slightly larger overall. These do work well in the CK35B unit and may work in the D35, though they're not what Doug has.
Herb may have one of each of the smaller two sizes.
As the GE units don't have rails on the shelves, I don't understand your comment Blackhorse. This would be correct for a Frigidaire.
The chiller tray also allows you to fast chill something you would place in the tray. It also helps regulate cabinet temperature.
I have randomly purchased most that I have from eBay. I have rarely sold a tray as most buyers don't seem to value them for what they cost.

As the GE units don't have rails on the shelves, I don't understand your comment Blackhorse. Some flat tops do. Mine is missing its tray, but there is a big tray-sized gaping hole in the shelf that goes under the evaporator, with rails on either side. Also, as far as chiller trays are concerned, I'm guessing the DRA2s must have had a special size unique to their uniquely sized cabinet and evaporator?

I forgot about the flat tops as I don't hoard those.
Yes, a DRA2 would use a special tray and freezer block. I've never seen either of them.

Ok this question has got me thinking.. Does the chiller try have a purpose other than catching water when you defrost it or does it help the fridge work more efficient?? The chiller tray catches water during defrost. It also is fresh meat storage; it runs about 5 degrees colder, so fresh meat will be a bit below 30 degrees if you keep the box a bit above freezing. It also affects control setting; if you have the box set at 34 or so with the tray in place stuff will probably freeze a bit with it removed.

Picture of tray in rails under evaporator: monitortop.freeforums.net/post/17239/thread(The tray in this unit is a "granite" porcelain-on-steel aftermarket replacement that fits in the rails. It was in the refrig when I bought it back in the '70's. Someone apparently dropped the original). Also all my flattops have the same tray-in-rails arrangement; the glass trays have flanges that fit in the rails, with ridges that -help- keep the tray from coming out too far when you pull it out like a drawer, you have to lift it slightly to pull it out the rest of the way.

Blackhorse,
I’ve owned at least four CK30’s. In my opinion, your middle shelf was your top shelf. I would bet your top shelf is an aftermarket replacement. I have never seen a CK30/T9 with anything but a solid shelf with a standard chiller tray under the evaporator.
What you have is a nice design.

Blackhorse none of my fridges have that set up like yours, mine are all sold one piece racks .
Has anyone seen a chiller tray for a ball top sense it’s only 5.5 inches wide by 12 deep ? Think it would be a long narrow one .

Herb,
The ball top chiller tray is another hard to find one. That's why I pounced on the complete fridge in Dayton last year. I will say that a rectangular glass baking dish works well as a substitute.

Do you have sizes for the various fridges .

Herb,
I’ve never measured anything because I’ve never been that confident that I knew what was correct.
I believe I measured the balltop tray for you once.
