I'm considering buying a CK. Is there anything you need to do like moving a FEA??
Also there is a small dent in the cover where the switches are. Does the cover come off so it can be straitened?
I did a search but came up with nothing.. Thanks

The cover is easy. Carefully get a small flat blade screwdriver into the sides of the cover plate. GENTLY pry up on both sides. You will see a cut out portion on the left and right sides. The cover will pop off.
Also, you will need to strap the unit to the cabinet so that it doesn't fly off. Or you can transport them separately if you build a crate for the unit. It has to be a strong one though. You also have to be very careful with how you lift and lower the unit. There are fragile lines that are all too easy to hit. Take out the shelves and any accessories, strap it down and let it rip!
Oh, and if you do leave it together it will be very top heavy of course. Makes it much harder to handle.

Thanks for the response..
I'm going to transport it in two pieces... So it's basically like moving a FEA? I've moved them a couple of times. Are the lines you are talking different than the FEA? Do the tops weigh about the same? Also is there a cooling fan on a CK?

A ck unit weighs more than an FEA. A CK is in the 160 lb range.

There is no fan. It is natural draft (convection). For that reason none of them CK, DR, CA, should be run with anything over the unit. No towels, rugs, blankets, or enclosed in cabinets. And certainly not a Raggedy Andy wig.........

Rick,
There was once a CK in ebay that had been “dressed” up as Raggedy Andy, complete with orange mop hair!

That's not an image that's easy to forget-- LOL, I must have missed that one! It's happiest transported upright (e.g. in a crate, or on an upright cabinet). Otherwise, nothing special. Nothing locks down for transport. The compressor inside the dome is still free on its springs, and will bang against the bumper. So you'll hear clanging when you hit bumps. Try not to worry.

Man that good to know you can laying it down.. I'll be getting it in a truck so that will be easier.. I take the top off of my FEAs plus it makes them lighter..
It's also good to know there is no fan to think about..
Does the cover come off so the dent can be fixed or is it welded on the coils?

Another question and I'm sure there are different advantages on each... But I'm also looking at a DR.. Is a CK have anymore or less problems than a DR? Thanks

As ckfan said above, the knob cover pries off by using 2 flat prying tools in the little pry slots on each side of the badge. There are friction pins that hold it; it's meant to remove to access the screws that hold the control in place. I put folded paper to pry against to keep from marking the paint.
CK's are much more robust, efficient, and trouble-free than DR's. You stand a lot better chance of buying one that works when you get it home. They make great daily users.
DR's have a lot of personality, and just look really cool. They have a lot of tricks up their sleeves to thwart the casual user.
Lots of people end up getting one of each.

The ck was the last upgrade so to speak. The dr were the first and then the ca came next ck and then the feas as replacements. WW 2 put an end to mt manufacturing is what I under stand . The CK is the cumulation of ge work at that time . The ck is a robust fridge, that doesn’t need a heater but it still has so2 in it . You can probably find more C.K. s around because they were the most upgraded. My self think the drs look the best but are more prone to problems. Have 3 drs (2 doa ) 2 das both work but need rewired and new heaters and ncg’s bleed . 2 cks one Is my everyday user other stil in garage . As far as transportation I have just laid them down on there back , after you have strapped it two cabinet securely.
