I love this forum. The wealth of knowledge here is great compared to what I had twenty years ago when I began collecting.
I love to help and so do many others, please help us by following some of the advice below.
Please take some time to look at some threads and identify the model you have. Please create your thread in the correct section. You may attach images or upload them elsewhere and leave a link in your thread. When attaching here, please be mindful of your image size. Cell phone pictures or notoriously large and eat up our storage space here. I frequently email myself pictures that are large and select a smaller file size option. You can then save those to your computer or phone to upload here. Another option is to use picresize.com. Images of 80-150 KB seem to be adequate here. All of this is free and helps keep this forum easy to use.
Please be descriptive in your thread subject. Please refrain from: Oh Wow!, What have I got?, etc.
If you're wishing to give away or sell something, please use the classified section and include your city and state. We have members across the US and the world.
Thank you for listening.

This is always a problem on all forums to one degree or another. Travis is right though most all the answers are already posted here if one just take the time to look.

I may be guilty of this to some degree but I do try to find the answers before asking for help. Case in point is the rewire of my CA. I looked but didn't find in the CA section. Did I know that the CK rewire was the pretty much identical,no. Not until it was pointed out by a forum member. Thanks Elec573! I recently tried to find pictures of the sealing of the top of the cabinet. The search of the forum resulted in 63 pages of posts 62 of which were irrelevant. One page did have what I was looking for but it took some digging. The breadth of knowledge here can make it difficult to pinpoint your specific issue quickly. The members here are awesome and respond quickly to those in need. I know it can be annoying when you have the what I call "drive bys" that pop in asking what they have and how many millions it's worth and then vaporize as quickly as they came. As was mentioned most all forums have this issue. I also noticed that most all of the forum members actually use the location field in their signature so everyone knows where they and their offerings reside in the event they post something for sale or otherwise. It would be great if it was used. Big brother already knows where you live and has all your conversations in the NSA data center in Utah. 🤣

You realize the total irony of this thread-- The very people it's directed to will never make the time or effort to see it before they post......

I think it's probably time to for the administrators to look through and delete some threads created by the "drive by" members. The gee whiz what's it worth threads can vanish, IMO.
On second thought, I will offer an "expert appraisal" for a fee just like antiqueappliances.com! Then I can afford to rescue all the remaining DR's that pop up around the country.

I like that Travis but they probably won't agree with your appraisal. 😳

But, but it's a priceless 1915 monitor top!!
There's a DR on ebay right now without a compressor or evap for $300. I've scrapped better than that.

Unless, of course, the Admin have real lives like the rest of us. All the niggling details that take time and resources away from their time online......

I think that creating a way to make new members aware of the vast resources available would be a good idea. I have no idea how. I think that this is yet another reason why I want to make a totally new forum. Wishing for a thing to happen is one thing. Actually completing it...is quite another.

I think that creating a way to make new members aware of the vast resources available would be a good idea. Some kind of time delay feature perhaps? Visitors can't post, new members either can't post for X number of hours, or until logged on for X number of hours (presumably reading), or opening X number of sections? I don't know what's technically possible within the forum software, but something like that. These machines have been around 80 years; another couple of days won't get their shorts in a twist....

Maybe we need a forum forum.

Maybe we need an area where these new members can post before being let loose?
The only reason it would be a lot of work to clear out the useless topics is that we’ve never done it before now.
I’ll sit at work tonight and spotlight numerous examples.
