I discovered a trick for refreshing badges. I had a badge that was pretty crusty. The metal cleaned up pretty good, but most of the background white was gone. I applied a thin coat of white nail polish and let it dry. Once dried, I gently rubbed it with non-acetone nail polish remover. I then repeated this procedure several times until all the voids were filled. drive.google.com/open?id=0B1TLsWim04glRkR6NVl4U25OM2cThis technique works well on any recessed letters or numbers. By using the non-acetone remover, it can even be used on painted surfaces.

Concerning the control badge on CK's; What is the significance of the round flat badge vs the rounded-off-corners squarish badge with recessed white lines?

It is just a styling change by year. Like the auto industry. Round is 1934 and 35. Square is 1936. Square with round corners is 1937. Or so I think.
