I remember my father saying that it didn't work. It appears to work. It cools down, and I see frost in the freezer portion. But it's loud and since the outside of it is cold I imagine that the insulation isn't all that it could be. It's odd taking my hand off the Kelvinator and putting it on the Monitor Top. The Monitor Top is room temperature. The top of the compressor is just a bit warmer. I haven't hooked the Kill a Watt to it, but my guess is it's going to use a good amount of energy.

Most of these old frigs I have are all 1/8 hp compressors and draw about the same watts when cooled down. Of course bad insulation won't help. Wonder how loud it is,next to the monitor top it would sound louder.

It's nothing that one couldn't get used to, but it reminds me of riding in an old truck vs. a new car. There's background road noise, squeaks and rattles as you drive down the road with the truck. With the car you have a little noise, but it's fairly well insulated so it's eerily quiet. The only noise the MT makes is a little rattle when the compressor turns on. The Kelvinator not being run in years might be why it makes some noise. The seals might need a bit of oil on them so they swell a bit and take up the tolerance between parts. I'll be out of town for the next couple days so I unplugged it. I'll run the numbers on usage when I get back.

Would love to hear it. I know my 48 seemed like it was not as loud after it ran a few days. Don't know how long it sat without running much before I got it but it may have been a long time.
