How hard is it to re-paint the Coil and compressor on the DR? Looks like it would be hard to get the back side of the coil and the compressor housing.
I have a chance at a working DR, with the "Oven" style evaporator (Missing the Iron/Aluminum, cooling block). Just wondering how hard it is to paint the coil and compressor.
Thanks
Chuck England

Someone posted an early film of Monitor Tops being painted in the original factory and they have them hung on a spinning hook. That let's them spin the unit very fast while spraying! I am definitely going to duplicate that method for painting mine

That's interesting Allan! I'm looking forward to see how you manage to copy that method. It sounds like a good way to paint them.

Sure doesn't look that easy when I look at my DR, seems like there would be lots of hard to reach areas.

I am using Black Diamond glass bead media for my blaster, and i get it from Tractor Supply locally. I use medium grade for all the metal and fine grade for the DR top and copper coils. It cleans better and easier than I thought, and some hand work is necessary

First coat of non-yellowing urethane white [tinted to match porcelain]. Will wet sand the flaws and second and final coat late tomorrow.

The refrigerant lines will get a silver coat of paint and we have new stainless bolts and nylon washers for the evap mount plate. Will spray foam between evap plate and unit top after coating all the copper tubing

What kind of paint do you use on the copper lines? I was considering using some of the 100% stainless pigment paint I have on them.

Found you had already told me on Flickr. Ace aluminum paint for metal.

Alan, What do you guess is the distance from the bottom of the evaporator to the top of the cabinet? I just bought a DR-1 and want to make a box to set the compressor and evaporator on so the evaporator doesn't get damaged. Would 9" be deep enough? Thanks and best regards, Thomas (vintageguy)

Do you ever leave the copper coils unpainted on a DR?
