Last month one day I noticed my cabinet temps rose to 40* and run times jumped up to 10 mins. After tapping on the float everything was back to normal(30*). However that only lasted a few weeks. It rose again to 40* overnight, after some more aggressive tapping on the float the temps came back down and run times near normal, perhaps 30 seconds to a min more than normal.. After which I noticed changes to the evap. I suspect whatever stuck in the float made its way to the evap, perhaps debris or oil? The entire back row with the crossover(equalizer tube?) is frost free and the frost line on the header has dropped a bit. Before, back row frosted, high frost line After, no frost on back row.

have you tried putting a tray of hot water in it?
Putting a good heavy load on it may help clean things out. Put a fairly large container of maybe 100-120F water in it and let it freeze it.

I took your advice awhile back and it worked wonders. Defrosted and then put a rather large pot of hot water(140*) and let it sit in the evap for awhile. Made all sorts of gurgling. Replaced with another pot of hot water and turned it back on. I have a video of the compressor under load. sounds great. Even with the 140* water the evap frosted quickly and the water was ice cold in an hr or so. i'd say it was over a gallon of water. ON cycle times dropped from 7 mins to 3. That'll help the electric bill!
