I have been buying/using/fixing/selling old fridges for awhile now, usually late 40's early 50's models, and just recently picked up my first monitor top FEA. I found out most of the info about my fridge from this site so thank you for that! The fridge runs and cools wonderfully, however the wiring is so brittle that I was surprised it ran. I am in the process of painting and insulating the fridge and then want to fully wire it. I am hesitant to dive into it without having as much info as I can beforehand, though, so if anyone can give me andy help or advice I would really appreciate it. Look forward to hearing from someone! Also, the square to is missing so if anyone happens to have one for sale I am interested.
Thank you!
Ted

Very easy to rewire these. Check the sticky thread on how to replace the fan motor. It has wiring diagrams for 2 FEA models.

Thanks for the tip. I checked out the thread and after pulling mine apart my relay is different than the one you have pictured. It is dated July 1952 and as far as I can tell the wiring is different then the diagram you had. I have it all mapped out how it will go back together, shouldn't be a problem, but I was wondering about wire selection. Whats the best gauge? Should I add a ground for the power cord? What is the best replacement for the three wire cord going from the relay to the compressor? Sorry for all the questions, just want to do it one time and do it right. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

It doesn't look like I took any pics of the rewire itself. Will have to look at the one I did thats in a storage bin. May be a day or two before I get there. I am sure I grounded it but don't remember where and if more than one place.
I have been using 16 gauge wire even though most the frigs 50s and older seem to have 18 gauge. Bought some wire that has a-50c to 105C rating/type SEOOW from Wire and Cable To Go. Had to buy more than a few feet from them though. Its black and looks similar to many older cords, especially if you use a mild solvent to remove the modern white identifying print on it to make it look "older".

Thank you that's very helpful. I am going to order the wire and get to it, I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks again!
