Kinda off the subject here, but I was working on my 1933 frigidaire. It has been running in my kitchen for 10-15 years and was not working well as of.late. long run times and low frost line. Very little boiling in evap. I took it.out of service and heated evap and cracked the low side service valve open. What a ya know, the boiling has once again returned to evap! Could this be no condensables generated from within the systom after 80 years?

Very interesting John. What refrigerant is in that system? Keep us informed after a few days of running

It's a freon 12 systom with an early hermetic 1/12 hp compressor. It has been giving poorer performance as the years go by. Unfortunately after I got done messing around with it today, although normal boiling has returned it seems that I have bled too much refrigerant from it now. Darn!. Oh well, I'll probably just evac and recharge with R409 and see how 8th goes.

It.may have. I don't trust the charge valve. Either that or when I purged it a second time I let out too much. Factory charge is only 14 oz. It is strange however that when I purged it the first time, boiling returned to the evap, and compressor quieted down.

This looks like a 1937 or 38 model. The model year is part of the model number of this vintage.

Pulled the old frigidaire into a deep vacuum today and recharged with 12 oz. Of 416a. Due to the weigh difference of the two refrigerants you have to multiply the name plate charge by .8. Seems to work fine now, and has a fully frosted evap. The thermostat seems to have to much differential, and the compressor is a little noisy for my taste. I think eventually it will be a candidate for a complete overhaul, blasting, new paint and a modern compressor.
