Hello folks.
I’m new to fridges, but love restoration. I’m working on this Crosley, and I got everything “working@- however, it never seems to stop cooling. No matter what the setting. So I suspect either the thermostat isn’t working, or is not wired properly to control the compressor.
It’s a shelvadore. Gorgeous, but I’m stuck with frozen water. Sits at 24 degrees no matter what. Does the thermostat control The compressor directly? Did the previous owners misfire it? Should one wired into the relay somehow? Any help would be great…
Thanks so much!!!

Some pictures of your refrigerator, any nameplate data, thermostat assembly & year if available will help with the diagnosis. David should be along shortly ...
In the near term if you wish to get it functional without modifications (assuming you are handy) could wire in a stc-1000 temperature controller just to get by until repairs are made.

I’m assuming there isn’t a wiring diagram on the back of the fridge cabinet?
The thermostat will cut power to the compressor. Usually it will cut power going to the common terminal on the compressor. If you rotate the thermostat when the fridge is cold, do you hear it click at any position?

I do sometimes here that click. But temp never changes. Always 25-ish, compressor always going. Super quiet…
So, the common wire to the compressor should be coming from the thermostat- directly or indirectly… think you may have just solved this for me.
On the plate of the relay, there is a contact hole and bolt that I believe had two wires to it originally. (Super hard to get info)…. Now I think that those two wires are connected to one of the adjacent posts with other wires. Possibly to bypass the thermostat.
I wish I had a clear photo of the wire placement on that relay….
Ima try and figure that out. Ann’s no, no working diagram on this fridge.

For temporary control the goal is to not modify anything. If you decide to get the controller I suggested just wire a male & female plug to it. The sensing lead is very small and could just be brought in through the door. You could sense air temperature or the evaporator; your choice. The controller will do whatever you tell it to do. We already know your hot wire relay is functioning & your thermostat contacts are staying closed.

Is there anyone that could provide a wiring diagram for the 1951 crosleynshelvadore? I’m sure that the wiring involves living the thermostat and/or heater is the issue. - never stops cooling…

I’m sure that the wiring involves living the thermostat and/or heater is the issue. - never stops cooling… Hi, unfortunately the attachments aren't working on the forum. I e-mailed you a diagram showing how to wire up a basic vintage fridge with a Supco start device, thermostat, and cabinet light. I sent it to your e-mail address used to register for the forum. Sincerely, David

Turbokineyic: Thanks!!! I can’t find it…. Wierd, but I’ll figure it out… Strange, the e-mail didn't bounce back, so I assume it came through. I would use the forum message feature but that doesn't support attachments. Check your spam folder?
