This poor little Globe top runs and has some charge in it. It will not circulate though. It was going to be scrapped by it owner so of course I jumped at the chance to save it. So far I plugged it in and could hear some boiling in the evap coil and the condenser started to get warm. Then after it sucked out what little refrigerant was in the evap the condenser got cold again and no more boiling. I tried heat treating the evap in case it had oil logged with no change. Took off the top and inverted it and it did not equalize. Looks like it has a restricted or badly stuck float. Attachments:

Wow! Nice little globe. Yeah sure sounds like it just needs a little cleaning of the needle seat. 80 year tune up.

What kind of fridge is that in the back left? It kind of looks like the one I ruined as a kid by defrosting it with a chisel. It started hissing, I acted like I didn't know what happened and no one knew for a few days as it was in the basement. I was maybe 6 or 7 at the time.

That is the 50 Westinghouse we brought home first.

I would have stayed longer, but my friend gets grumpy is he's out too late before work. I know you can get that ball top to work. The orange cabinet that matched that top has a lot of rust where the legs bolt on. That fridge is a marriage of two ball tops.

I was so annoyed at myself for passing up a non-working CG not far from where I live. They put it on ebay twice almost 2yrs ago now and no one bid Back then I didn't know I could have repaired it.

Interesting. Now we are a group of people that ignore working Monitor tops and try to find broken ones. How things have changed eh? You know it's a funny thing, but you're right...it's because we've proven that they can be repaired, and it's a lot of fun bringing one back to life. I think it would be quite therapeutic having a warehouse full of monitor tops to work on all day. In this part of the world because of their rarity, it has to be faulty for me to get one at an acceptable price. The strange refrigerant means the owner can't find anyone to fix it and the value plummets.
