Hello all, looking to see if Turbo-David is active and can maybe assist a little. Working on restoring a 1955 Crosley Shelvador. Fridge is in great shape and has the water dispenser in the door. Very cool. Looking to see if anyone has a parts diagram or can assist with the breaker strip removal. The breaker strip is one continuous piece, not in sections like other fridges. All the external wiring is pretty brittle so I will have to remove the inner cabinet and rewire everything, plus I need to clean the evaporator, some rust built up on top of it and a little inside. All the lines run from underneath to the front of the fridge and up to the evaporator, nothing runs up the back like other manufacturers. Would be good if I knew how the breaker strip is retained before I attempt to remove and pry on it. Any assistance would be appreciated. I think David has vid of a Crosley on Youtube but I didn't see any footage of the breaker strip being removed. Thanks for any help! Edit: added a couple pics of the water dispenser and pic of the inside of the door where it mounts above the egg shelf, if anyone was curious! Dono

That’s pretty neat. I don’t know how that breaker strip comes out. Sometimes the internal wiring is still in great shape. Is it crunchy when it goes into the breaker strip?

Oh yeah, crunchy. A 48 GE I restored was like that, crunchy outside, and fine inside. Plus the covers where the wiring feeds into the cabinet show some rust, and I really need to get the evaporator cleaned up so I need to dis-assemble the unit.

Got it out no problems. Emailed John at Antique Appliances. Pressure clips attached to the back of the breaker strip then into the cabinet. You do actually have to pry it out, carefully I might add, around the clips between the strip and the cabinet with a putty knife.

Glad John was able to help you! I just finished with one of these same fridges. Very well made.

Yes they are very well made. Question for you David, you can see the evaporator and some of the rust on it. This rust is also on the outside and has a white cakey, dusty buildup as well. I'm carefully cleaning it up today with wire brushes and steel wool. I will hit it with Krud Cutter to help clean the rust off and inhibit more rust buildup, then rinse it well. I planned on touching it up with some paint once it's ready. Question is what type of paint would you recommend for the evaporator? Not sure what to use on something that gets down to freezing temps. TY sir.
