Last night I saw this book on the bay and wondered if it would be worth buying. Decided to try and find out and found this. babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015002946328;view=1up;seq=1This is one very informative book that I have only rushed through so far. Has lots of good info we can use from what I have seen so far. Here is some things that caught my eye. Pages 51& 52 - info on brine. Page 124 - float and cap tube used in series. Page 179 - Auto transformer and capacitor run motors. States cap run was not real common due to the fact the caps of the day tended to overheat and not last. Page 208 - Info on group II refrigerants Page 212 - States that Methyl formate acts like methyl chloride in the presence of H2O. Page 218 - Tips for changing refrigerants. Page 277 - Repairing high side floats. Page - 307 - Float control tester. Page 317 - Absorption systems. Page 337 - Servicing absorption systems. Page 394 - Recommends cleaning compressor components with mineral spirits. Page 393 Discuses driers and filters. And that is with only quick look that I found all of this I think we will find much more.

Interesting. Repairing highside floats? Does it go into detail about why, or how they are commonly damaged? The float and cap tube in series also has me curious.

I have that book, though a slightly earlier edition...1943. It's where some of the material I've presented here has come from, such as methyl formate p/t chart and the list of GE specs. It's a worthwhile reference book that helped me in the early days, but don't buy it only because of the GE info...apart from the methyl formate info there is nothing monitor top related that we don't already have here. The 1956 edition turns out to be quite a bit different to the earlier edition. Some of the 1930's specific info has been removed, but a lot of other information added. The vintage car air con stuff is fascinating. I'm looking through it now - very interesting read and I might just buy the book.
