I like the window in the door is that a factory install or something else?
I was looking at doing that with my ball top but didn’t want to use the original door. So am looking for a second one (door) if you come across one .

Hey, were just having a good debate about something we both love and want. No hard feelings here.

You are all a riot and I love it. I wish my wife would let me collect a few more. I’m stuck repairing and re-homing them. Travis, you should take pictures of the collection! I’d love to see your treasures once the new building is complete (or before). Travis has a very impressive collection. Many one-off and only-one-known items. I've been fortunate enough to make several visits and help with some of his collection. As for the glass-door model, I hope you will take the time to share good pictures and details of it with is. I'm totally OK with not owning everything I find interesting; but I really hate to see some crappy seller pictures and then the item sells, and nobody knows where it is and its details get lost to posterity. Sincerely, David

Thanks to a friend, I can share these advertising brochures! These don't look "exactly" like yours, but maybe close?

Do they die from bad run caps or from poor internal wiring?

Do they die from bad run caps or from poor internal wiring? I think the general consensus is that the larger power DR's fail because of higher operating temperatures due to higher horsepower. The cotton insulated winding breaks down faster at higher temperatures. The "technology" used in the DR (high-side housing, motor design, cotton winding, SO2 etc.) was just not up to the task of a higher HP design. The smaller ones run cooler and less duty-cycle. Typically they are more likely to still be good. The DR3 size machines also have the external transformer-capacitor device. The motor is designed to run in a two-phase configuration with the transformer-capacitor providing the second phase. This was "rocket science" back in the day. It's very likely that this fails and ends up causing people to kill the compressor due to incorrect repair or troubleshooting steps - because they don't understand it.

I agree with David. My negative experiences with these old DR’s is why I’ve accumulated so many. It’s also why I have a CK35 unit in a crate.
I’m not meaning to overly hoard these, but I’d rather that knowledge people have them than for these to be lost to those ignorant to their needs.
I also have an issue overpaying for an item in the hopes that the issue is minor. Experience has taught me that’s rarely the case.
When I get completely moved and organized I would be happy to show off what I’ve collected. I’m very sorry that my physical limitations make it very difficult to just go snap pictures. I now have at least three larger units off cabinets and it’s a bitch getting them back together. Anyone that’s been on the lifting end of a DR knows the struggle.
My additional thought is that not only were the larger units more problematic, less produced, but they also got saved less often as they’re heavier.

It’s been approximately a month and I’m still curious to know how this glass door DR behaved once It got home

I wondered since the seller was so confident he was sitting on a gold bar.

So, ill try again. Finally got this baby home. Seems the only problem is the temp. Adjustment spring. It was down to 12 degrees and dident turn off. Other then that it seems to work fine. Here's some pics.
