I picked up a ball top last weekend. The seller bought it about 15 years ago non running and kept it in his house as a conversation piece. It appears to have spent most if not all of it is time indoors. The paint looks original, it has all three shelves, and very little rust. I pulled the control, and the contacts look shot, so I bypassed that with an RO81 and if fired right up, ran real quiet and the evaporator got frosty. Repairing the control is beyond my skill level, so I sent it to David to work his magic. In the meantime, I’ve been going through it and plotting a plan of attack. drive.google.com/drive/folders/11AAKi-j4DzCFYZ_nNRWOnfF2azcjZtxd?usp=sharingI bought this chiller tray off eBay a while back. I don’t know if it’s correct for this model, but it fits and does have the GE logo. drive.google.com/file/d/1AH-E7IHd8us6nW9YkUjs-5WJn9IQzQTP/view?usp=sharingIt had the full CK version of the door sticker which I found humorous since some of the information does not apply such as turning the knob and using the defrost feature, etc.. I will probably replace that with the same reproduction since that is what it had originally. drive.google.com/file/d/1ZO00U1kgO20Q-oO1QUrAOUC1v_GuXcHC/view?usp=sharing

That is pretty funny that they didn’t bother to use a different version of the door sticker on that ball top. So glad it went to a good home! I’m sure the control will be great once David is done with it!

That's the same chiller tray that came with the one I have. I have to admit that I'm really impressed with the little guy, and it really does run quietly. It's too bad that GE didn't spend a few more dollars on making the cabinet a little more hefty, but that's how it goes. They sure must have been a pretty good seller for GE as well.

Thanks, I'm glad you confirmed the tray is correct. I bought it because it fit another fridge, but it looks better in this one.

Also, the black background on the ID badge is pretty washed out. Has anyone had success restoring the color on these? I have used a black Sharpie to re-black the background, then buff the raised parts with 1000 grit or better sand paper, then a light clear coat.

I’m so glad David was able to help you sort out the control. He’s great isn’t he?
Also glad that the rest of it turned out well!

I've used oil-based paint pens to some success in filling in the lettering on old aluminium panels, although I suspect acrylic would work better. I wish Uni-Paint markers were more easily available since I have found them to be better quality than the Sharpie ones.
